We’re counting down 10 weeks to the launch of the first annual World Homeless Day on 10-10-10 (October 10, 2010).
This week’s big idea: Challenge Your Thinking
What are your assumptions about homelessness? Like most issues, there’s far more to homelessness than the stereotype.
We just found out about World Homeless Day & we’re pumped!
We are trying to get an event going here in Savannah, GA, where there are lots of services & support for homeless people, yet there are still people living on the streets, under bridges & in “transitional” housing.
We are finding lots of resources from other places in the US & the World based on finding this Day – one day a year, “celebrated” every year on the same day.
Last year I was just beginning my personal journey of understanding what it was all about – more on that later maybe!
I didn’t know about this day, so I guess it wasn’t mentioned anywhere I was hanging out last year.
Well, on to the challenge! Through the source of my initial exposure to World Homeless Day,
Common Ground Worldwide & their blog,
we found this posting from Portland, Oregon.
The Myths of Homeless are presented in an effort to present this weeks challenge,
“This week’s big idea: Challenge Your Thinking”
Test your understanding of the myths – do you believe them? Is your understanding of homelessness based on these Myths?
If so, bust your thinking & try to “get it” please!
We’ll be trying to help you understand the facts in other ways as we proceed to develop the content & find other articles to test your assumptions & educate you.
Remember, our mission is to “Advocate, Educate & Collaborate on the issues affecting homelessness, promoting the ending of homelessness in Savannah & beyond…”
