‘60 Minutes’ story on homeless children in Florida spurs $1 million in donations | Poynter..

Check this out! CBSNews on @60Minutes will re-air & update the story based on activities since the Nov 27, 2011 airing of that update from last year!

SO… You see, mainstream media can get attention to the issue of homelessness! In this case it’s for kids & families in Orlando!

We truly appreciate this coverage & now wish that the coverage could be expanded to the Housing First Model being driven by the 100K Homes Campaign in many communities around the country!

It’s already getting great exposure in many local communities where they have adopted the model but we challenge the mainstream media in Savannah to take this on & ask “Why hasn’t Savannah adopted & signed up for this program to end chronic homelessness in our own community?”

We asked the politicians running for office this year in Savannah to give us their position statements on this issue. Some did, none of the Mayoral candidates responded, one ineffectively, but several aldermanic candidates did. Some of those lost but they have committed to work with us after the campaign!

Now, let’s get to work!
