Ending Homelessness in Savannah, What’s in it for YOU | Ignoring the homeless costs more in the long run

No matter what your viewpoint is on taking care of the homeless we like to meet people where they are in their walk.

So, if you’re into helping the homeless because of social justice considerations, your faith tells you to or you’re looking for the “what’s in it for me” perspective we’re ready to help you find your way forward!

Our ultimate goal is to get to a Housing First solution here in Savannah! How we get there is up to you!

So for this post, take a look at the pragmatic view & let’s save taxpayers (yes you are a taxpayer, right) some money!

Even if you don’t care about the altruistic reasons for addressing housing, hunger, health, substance abuse and other needs of the homeless, you ought to care about the pragmatic one. Leaving the homeless to fend for themselves is more costly than providing help.

And providing help is a multidimensional challenge.

If you want to learn more about how Housing First saves taxpayers money take a walk or a click over to our Housing First Savannah website & look at our presentation on Housing First!

We gave it to a group tasked with healthcare for the ones who need a safety net approach & met with some interest.

Now it’s up to all of us to come together & decide how much money we think we can save our community. This will take some data & we think we can come up with it along with costs for the solution & then agree on what we’ll save the taxpayers too!

The first rung on the ladder though is to agree that Housing First makes a difference & that we want to undertake that here in our community. We must agree on how Housing First will work here, what we’re willing to do for innovative services around the housing & how to fund this effort.

The devil is in the details & we must work through them, together!
